Good news!  Solar Rebates are coming to Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Sunshine program was approved last year.  It provides rebates of up to 35% for installation of solar systems on homes in Pennsylvania.  This is in addition to the 30% Federal tax credit that was created last Fall.  The funding for the $100 million Sunshine program has been in limbo due to the economic crisis our nation is going through.

On April 14th, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the initial funding is imminent.  According to Scott Dunkelberger, the executive director of the PA Commonwealth Financing Authority, they will go to market to finance the first $30 million the first week of May.  Additional funding will be sought over the next few years.

This is good news for homeowners wanting a solar system.  It is also good news for the solar installers who have customer contracts that have been waiting for the rebates.  This funding will unfreeze the contracts and also create jobs for installers.

  1. I think it is fantastic how the stimulus funds are making a difference. They are being taken advantage of all the time with the installation of geothermal heat pumps to replace high energy heating and cooling systems.
